Into the Wildness

It took me forever to leave.

But once I did, I decided to hit up some familiar territory and drove just two hours to the town of Turlock in the Central Valley. I figured it would be good to start where I knew a few folks and had a bit of personal history to revisit. Upon arrival I immediately got sucked into the vortex of strip malls and big box stores, but it served me well as I needed some groceries and a few other supplies and all the stores I wanted appeared miraculously around every turn in the freshly paved road: at Target Greatland I purchased a stellar little propane stove in the camping section, then I hit up a Safeway across the great divide of lanes. Since I was in box world and it was getting late, I decided to spend my first night camping in the Wal-mart parking lot and it felt safe and oddly comforting. I awoke to the rattling of shopping carts and the world at my disposal.
